HOW TO BUILD THE GAMING PC UNDER $300
Now that you have gathered all the necessary components for your set up, grab a screwdriver and let’s get down to business. Here comes the fun part!
Firstly, before you rip open all those boxes, make sure you have got enough space and all the required tools for the set up.
You will need a #2 size screwdriver and tons of patience. You can forget the screwdriver for once, but not patience. In addition to this, ensure a static-free surrounding, because static leads to screws getting lost.
That is the last thing you want when you are trying to incorporate some patience.
Next, unpack all the boxes but keep in mind that you keep all the components near their respective boxes and for the smaller items, let them be in their original packaging. This will make it easier for you to find pieces as and when you need them.
The one thing you need to keep the handiest is the manual that comes with the motherboard. You’re going to have to refer to the motherboard’s manual quite a few times while putting your PC together.
BUILDING TIME! Motherboard Setup
Keep your motherboard on the box it comes in to minimize damage whilst you are mounting the components on your mobo, readying it to install into the case.
a) Install the processor by opening the locking arms, removing the plastic back cover, and slowly lowering the CPU into the socket. b) Now, install the RAM in the appropriate slots. Read where these slots are in the motherboard manual. Again, match the notches, one on both the RAM and the socket. Essentially, lining those notches is the only way your RAM will go inside the slot.
c) The next task is to mount your CPU cooler. At this stage, you can remove the fans temporarily as it will give you more room to work and you can very easily put the fans back on after mounting the motherboard in its place.
d) In the end, take your motherboard’s I/O shield and push it into the opening in the rear of your case (or the front, read that in the manual). It might be pre-mounted too, depending on what motherboard you have chosen.
MOUNTING THE MOTHERBOARD
Okay, now that the motherboard is all set up, it is ready to be mounted on your case. Let’s see how you can do that.
a)Firstly, let’s get the PSU mounted. There’s just one simple rule for mounting the PSU- if your PSU mounts on the bottom of your case, face the fan up and if it mounts on the top, face the fan down. Now, just secure everything in place using screws (that come with it).
b) Next up, this is not necessarily mandatory, but it’s always good to double-check. Ensure that the standoffs inside placed inside the case are positioned correctly for the size of the motherboard you are using.
c)Lower the motherboard into the case, making sure to feed all the rear ports on the I/O panel through the I/O shield before you secure the motherboard in its place, which you can do using some screws.
d)If you removed the CPU fan, you can place it back in its place (the CPU fan header). On the other hand, if you are operating an AIO liquid cooler, hold up. Wait till you’re done mounting the GPU, otherwise, the tubing might get in your way.
GRAPHICS AND STORAGE SETUP
a)Install the GPU, if you’re going to be mounting your GPU horizontally. Just plug in the graphics card into an open x16 PCIe port. You can read about it in the motherboard manual.
If you are going to be mounting your GPU vertically, wait for the installation until you are done with all the other motherboard connections, specifically the ones along the bottom of the board.
b)Lock in any HDDs or SDDs you have ready to install. Again, ensure that the ports are facing up the non-windowed side of your case so that it is easy for you to manage all the cables.
It can be quite tricky! Depending upon the case you have, you might need some sort of hardware to secure everything in place or you might not need anything.
c)For internally mounted optical drive now is the time to slide it into position in your 5.25” bay. Again, depending on which case you have, you might have to mount it from the front side of the rear side. Check your motherboard manual!
CABLES AND CABLE MANAGEMENT

a) Boot/reboot your gaming PC and enter the BIOS. Your motherboard manual will tell you which key to press during the first loading screen (del or F9 or F10, or maybe nothing).
b) Once you are into the BIOS, make your way into the boot/startup section and select the USB flash drive as your primary boot source (or any other Windows installer you chose). Hit the F10 key to save, exit the BIOS. And again, reboot.
c) Insert the USB flash drive that has your Windows Installer. Once your PC is done booting, it will ask you if you want to boot from the installer at which point, press yes. Install the operating system by following the guidelines popping up on the screen.
